Clean & Circular

Textile production, textile management and textile waste pose issues with a global impact on the environment. Water and energy consumption, the usage of chemicals and packaging materials, and the increasing stream of end-of-life textiles all leave a footprint. Lamme actively works on reducing this footprint, often in collaboration with partners in the industry.

Textile circularity

Industrial laundries deal with large amounts of end-of-life textiles, which traditionally end up in landfills or incinerators. To start a change in this process, Lamme and 4 other laundries started Cibutex in 2022. Cibutex is fully dedicated to circularity in the business textile industry, takes initiatives, supports and facilitates innovations from which all Cibutex members benefit.

Circularity of packaging materials

To secure clean and hygienic delivery to the end-user, many textile items leaving our laundries are packaged in plastic wraps. In cooperation with Kivo and Kras, fellow members of the Circular Plastics Alliance, Lamme has set up a fully circular plastics value chain. All the plastic that is returned to Lamme is sorted, recycled, and used as input for our plastic wraps, that are made from 70% recycled material. Together with our partners, we keep working to further increase the share of closed-loop recycled material.

Water

Fresh and clean water is becoming an increasingly more scarce resource. Meanwhile, washing requires large amounts of water. At Lamme we are constantly working on reducing our water usage per washed kilogram of textiles. By implementing water recirculation techniques, we have reduced our fresh water consumption per washed kilogram substantially since 2022, and we keep working on further improvements.

Energy and CO2 emissions

Washing, drying, and ironing requires considerable amounts of energy, and relies heavily on electric and gas heating. At Lamme we are committed to become carbon neutral by 2040, and have already reduced our CO2 footprint by more than 25% since 2019. We have done so by making many improvements across our locations, ranging from capturing and re-using residual heat from our processes, to using only electric transportation for our brand Napking.

We also use cool-care chemistry products, a washing detergent certified with the EU-ecolabel, which enables us to wash at lower temperatures whilst maintaining the same quality of cleanliness and hygiene.

Biodiversity & Nature

Cotton production requires a lot of land. To make a contribution to the restoration and regeneration of nature, Lamme is planting its own ‘Lamme forest’. On a plot of land in Yavatmal, India, Lamme has been planting trees since 2022, which we will continue expanding and nurturing.
